Estoril Golf Course

Estoril Golf Course is located in the prestigious coastal town of Estoril, just 25 minutes from Lisbon, Estoril Golf Course is one of Portugal’s most historic and iconic golf venues. Originally designed by Jean Gassiat in 1929 and later redesigned by Mackenzie Ross in 1936, this 18-hole, par-69 course has hosted multiple editions of the Portuguese Open, as well as other prestigious tournaments like the European Ladies Open.

Set amidst lush pine, eucalyptus, and mimosa trees, Estoril Golf offers a traditional parkland layout with narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and small, undulating greens. It is a course that rewards precision and course management over raw power, making it a favorite among skilled golfers.

Course Design & Layout

Estoril Golf Course features a compact yet challenging layout, requiring accuracy rather than distance. The tree-lined fairways demand well-placed tee shots to avoid trouble, while small, fast greens with subtle breaks test even the best putters.

The course is known for its natural beauty and scenic views. The rolling terrain provides elevated tees with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The fairways are surrounded by tall pine, mimosa, and eucalyptus trees, offering a peaceful and picturesque setting.

Some of the most notable holes include:

  • Hole 3 (Par 4, 313m/342 yards), a short but tricky dogleg left that requires an accurate approach to a well-guarded green.
  • Hole 14 (Par 3, 185m/202 yards), one of the most challenging par 3s, played over a valley to a well-protected green.
  • Hole 16 (Par 4, 395m/432 yards), the longest par 4 on the course, requiring a precise tee shot and a demanding second shot to an elevated green.

Facilities & Amenities

The clubhouse offers a traditional setting with stunning views over the course and the Atlantic Ocean. The bar and restaurant serve fine Portuguese cuisine and provide a great place to unwind after a round.

For those looking to improve their game, the course features a driving range, putting green, and short-game area. Golf lessons with PGA professionals are available for all skill levels.

Estoril Golf Course is also associated with the Palácio Estoril Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel that has hosted royalty, celebrities, and professional golfers over the years. Guests staying at the hotel enjoy exclusive golf packages and privileges.
