Gleneagles Named Best Golf Resort In The World For Fifth Time
The Gleneagles Hotel was awarded the Best Golf Resort in the World title for the fifth consecutive year at the 2016 ULTRAS Awards on 23 May.
Award winners were announced at a ceremony held at The Savoy Hotel, London, following a voting process by readers of the Telegraph and Ultratravel to determine the world’s best travel experiences.
Gleneagles’ competition in the category included shortlisted properties Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, United States; La Manga Club, Spain; Pebble Beach Resorts, United States; and St Andrews Links, Scotland.
Paul Heery, Gleneagles’ General Manager, who attended the ceremony said: “Winning this prestigious award would be an honour for any hotel or golf resort, but winning it five times in a row is an enormous privilege and accomplishment.
“We are committed to providing an outstanding guest experience and our success is testament to the dedicated efforts of Gleneagles’ staff who work tirelessly to ensure every aspect of the customer journey is exceptional and creates lasting memories.”
He added: “Gleneagles was up against many other wonderful properties in this category, so we’re grateful to hotel guests and readers who took the time to vote for us.”
Gary Silcock, Gleneagles’ Director of Golf said: “We’re delighted to receive this award which demonstrates the high regard with which guests view our golf facilities.
“We pride ourselves on delivering a world-class golfing experience through impeccable customer service, unrivalled facilities and tuition, and outstanding courses – but we don’t rest on our laurels and are continually aiming for higher and better.
“We recently embarked on a multi-million pound investment programme across the hotel to enhance the guest experience – which includes developments to the Dormy Clubhouse, the PGA National Golf Academy and the James Braid designed King’s Course – and we look forward to introducing golfers to these new facilities.
“This award is also a tremendous boost for the Scottish golf tourism industry, with our preparations to host two major competitions at Gleneagles – the 2018 European Championships and the 2019 Solheim Cup – already in progress.”
The prestigious accolade is the latest achievement in a string of successes for the luxury Perthshire hotel, after gaining numerous awards in golf and leisure over the past year.
In January, Gleneagles was awarded the title of Scotland’s Best Hotel/Resort in the Today’s Golfer Travel Awards 2016 for the third consecutive year, while in March it was one of only six UK golf resorts to pick up a coveted Gold Flag Award for Golf Resorts at the annual 59club golf service awards. In April, the hotel won two Golf Digest Editors’ Choice Awards in the Best Grand Golf Hotels and Best International Resorts categories.
